Summer Barlow, md, chief medical officer
Dr. Barlow completed her undergraduate work at Harvard University and medical school at University of Rochester School of Medicine. Several things led Summer to engage in community health work. Growing up in upstate New York with a father who was a builder and a mother who was a landscaper, she experienced firsthand what it is like for a family to not always have insurance or access to medical care. She became a physician because she wanted to make sure everyone had access to excellent health care. She worked as a teacher in Guatemala and the Navajo Nation after college. From there she was a National Health Service Corps Scholar and did her residency at Lawrence Family Medicine Residency in Massachusetts, a program dedicated to training physicians to work in underserved communities. After residency Dr. Barlow worked as a physician leader at a community health center in rural Florida and then as the medical director of the family team at Boston Health Care for the Homeless. She moved to Asheville with her family after visiting friends here and falling in love with the area. Her great passion is to make sure everyone has access to excellent health care.
