Dr. Jai Kumar is a board-certified pediatrician. He graduated from Duke Medical School in 1994, then completed his pediatric residency at Penn State Medical School, and has been in practice now for 20 years as a general pediatrician. Most of his early career was spent at Sylva Pediatric Associates, a regional practice which treated children from all over the western counties. He saw patients in the office but also provided full-spectrum inpatient pediatric care at Harris Regional Hospital - from the ICU to the delivery room. Then he began his affiliation with AMCHC in 2016.
Currently, Dr. Kumar works half the week at our Tallulah Community Health Center in Robbinsville and half the week at our Leicester Community Health Center. His mission is to provide excellent care to children in underserved areas. He is fluent in French and speaks some Spanish.
Dr. Kumar and his wife Sabrina grew up in rural eastern Tennessee. Sabrina is a professional flutist and can be seen performing in various venues throughout the region.

He believes in leveraging patient-centered care and communication as he partners with patients to develop a long-term plan for their health and wellness. Dr. Poulton is also a member of the faculty for the Communication in Healthcare and Relationship Centered Leadership courses for the Mission Health System.
